Achievements celebrated at AGM

Our Annual General Meeting on Tuesday 13 August was as usual a well organised and enjoyable evening.

After the formal business, Executive member, Jenny Pahl, had the privilege on behalf of the Association to bestow Honorary Life Membership on Mrs Sharon Burdett  (pictured alongside) who has been instrumental from as early as 1970, with the growth of work done by the Association.

Over 44 years Mrs Burdett was a cake seller, street collector, mother of a Cerebral Palsied child, building developer, as well as several years as Chairperson, to name a few. Congrats and thank you Mrs Burdett!

Our guest speaker for the evening was none other than  June Neuhoff, author of the book The Real Me. The audience went through different emotions and understandings of June’s long road travelled between accepting why she is deaf, has a speech impediment and has Cerebral Palsy.

Throughout her childhood, June had to face obstacles that would have derailed the average person. Again and again she came up against the prejudice of society.

June explained that with a handful of pivotal people she grew to become the woman of self-worth she is today. You are an inspiration, June!

After the AGM, delicious eats and drinks were served.
